Basketball Summer Slam   Charity tourney beckons

Leemisa Thuseho

FOURTEEN teams will battle it out in the 2025 Lesotho Basketball Association (LBA) Summer Slam Charity Tournament which will be held at the Matsieng Indoor Courts at Moshoeshoe II High School from 13 to 14 December 2025.

The tournament will feature three categories: men, women, and corporate.

It will bring together both local and international teams, with some participants coming from eSwatini and South Africa.

In the men’s category, the registered teams are Khubetsoana All-Stars, Chase Basketball (eSwatini), Lerotholi Polytechnic, Bokamoso Alumni, Bokamoso Badboys and Bloemfontein Alumni.

Crossborder (South Africa), LNIG Hollard, Lerotholi Polytechnic and Bokamoso Ladies will contest in the women’s category.

The corporate category will comprise Maluti Mountain Brewery, LNIG Hollard, Standard Lesotho Bank and Nedbank Lesotho.

LBA public relations officer, Sam Motsamai, confirmed the list of registered teams to the Lesotho Times this week.

While the tournament is expected to stage fierce competition and present an opportunity for the basketball community to enjoy exciting matchups, Motsamai said its core purpose is to gather physical goods for donation to beneficiaries who are yet to be identified.

Both participants and spectators are encouraged to bring items such as non-perishable foodstuffs, used or new clothing, school supplies and toiletries.

“We will be collecting donations — whether non-perishable food, clothes or any other contributions — which will later be donated to those in need,” he said.

Motsamai added that they are looking forward to staging a high-standard tournament and are hopeful that all teams are ready to deliver quality basketball.

He further noted that preparations are progressing well, and that activation activities will be held this coming Saturday. Dubbed “Taste of Splash”, the activation will take place at Mak’aya Café in Ha-Foso, Maseru, where organisers will begin collecting donations.
