THE Bangladeshi Association of Lesotho (BAoL) marked its first anniversary with a vibrant and culturally rich celebration, reflecting on its achievements while setting ambitious goals for the future.

The event, held in Maseru West on Thursday, brought together association members, distinguished guests, and dignitaries in an evening of camaraderie, cultural exchange, and appreciation.

Established on 18 February 2024 and officially launched during a grand festival at Maseru Club on 10 March 2024, the BAoL has made remarkable strides in fostering stronger ties between the Bangladeshi and Basotho communities.

BAoL’s secretary general, Ifthekharul Islam, reflected on the association’s journey over the past year, acknowledging the support received from both the Bangladeshi and Basotho communities.

“We have come a long way since our formation. This first anniversary is not just a celebration of our existence but a reaffirmation of our commitment to strengthening relations between our two nations and uplifting communities in need,” Mr Islam said.

The event opened with a solemn prayer, invoking blessings for the well-being of everyone present and for the continued success of the association. Both the Lesotho and Bangladeshi national anthems were sung in unison, symbolizing the unity and respect between the two nations. A detailed report on the association’s work over the past year was presented, highlighting major projects and initiatives.

There was also a discussion on future endeavours, with a focus on expanding charitable efforts and enhancing bilateral relations. The audience was treated to traditional Bangladeshi music, dance performances, and poetry recitals, offering a colourful insight into Bangladesh’s rich cultural heritage.

Guests were enthralled by the vibrant performances, gaining a renewed appreciation for the association’s mission and its contributions to Lesotho’s cultural landscape

“Last year, we had an incredible hiking event with LMPS, fostering a sense of adventure and collaboration among our members and local partners. Additionally, we distributed 50 gift hampers to the villagers of Thabana Limmele and Ha Kubutu, an initiative that was greatly supported by Assistant Commissioner of Police Motsamai Kholumo.”

The association reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with local authorities, businesses, and community groups to facilitate cultural exchange, economic cooperation, and humanitarian efforts.

“We are determined to do even better than before. This is just the beginning for BAoL. We are committed to fostering mutual respect, cultural appreciation, and meaningful development projects that benefit both nations,” Mr Islam said.
