IT IS all systems go for the Open Winter Tournament starting tomorrow at Lehakoe Recreational Centre, the Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) has said.
The three-day tournament that starts on Friday is sponsored to the tune of M20 000 by Japanese Car Importer Khethollo Tsakatsi (KTJCI).
The tournament has also attracted teams from South Africa and Swaziland and the winners in both male and female categories will walk away with M5000.
LVA public relations officer, Buller Phalatse, said registration of the tournament would close this afternoon. He said the tournament also comes at a time when they have held refresher courses for their coaches.
“In the referees’ department we are covered since the tournament is coming soon after we held a refresher course for 15 referees last weekend at the Lesotho National Olympic Committee (LNOC),” Phalatse said.
“Registration is open until Thursday (today) but all is in place for the tournament and we are looking forward to the commencement on Friday. As you know as Basotho have a habit of doing things at the eleventh hour but most of the teams have communicated with us that they are taking part.
“We so far have three foreign teams that have registered. It is an open tournament for all teams whether local or foreign.”
The LVA publicist stated that they are grateful for the support from KTJCI, who are the sponsors of the tournament.
“We are grateful for the sponsorship from KTJCI and looking forward to the start of the tournament on Friday.
“Winners in both the male and female categories will walk away with M5000. The second and third placed teams will get M3000 and M2000 respectively. All the winning teams will also get medals and trophies.
“We will also have prizes for outstanding players at the end of the tournament.”
