The 2016 volleyball season is expected to get underway next month.

According to Lesotho Volleyball Association (LVA) president, William Nhlapho, the season would be preceded by an annual general meeting later this month.

Redskins won both the male and female leagues last season.

Nhlapho, who was recently appointed Confederation of African Volleyball vice-president, told the Lesotho Times that the association was still negotiating with longtime sponsor, Metropolitan Lesotho, over a new deal for the upcoming season.

“Our contract with Metropolitan ended last season and we are still on the negotiating table for a new deal,” Nhlapho said.

“It is a long and strong partnership and it’s just a matter of finalising details of the new details.”

The LVA has been receiving M40 000 a year from Metropolitan as well as a  playing kit for the national teams.

Speaking about his recent election to the Confederation of African Volleyball executive, Nhlapho said he was honoured to be the first Mosotho to assume such a huge responsibility.

“I have previously worked as vice-president at regional level, where I think I did very well hence I have been elevated to a bigger body,” said Nhlapho.

“This tells me that we have the potential to lead as a country and I’m very honoured to be given such a big role at continental level. It was even special because I was unopposed during the December elections.

“For me, it shows that I have the qualities of a good leader and should also use my role to help take volleyball to another level in my country.”

Nhlapho said he had already been given the greenlight to work on projects that would boost volleyball at grassroots level.

“I will be working on talent-identification projects to boost the sport in our country and it has already been endorsed by the president.”
