CAR spinning outfit, Wild Cats Spin and Drift Association, has committed to channel half of the proceeds from its official launch event on 3 September 2015 to charity.

According to the association’s publicist, Bofihla “Lilaphalapha” Neko, the launch event would be held at Excel Garage in Masianokeng. He said half of the event’s takings would be used to buy sanitary pads for underprivileged ladies.

Wild Cats earlier this year split from the Slip Diff Association, and specialise in spinning and drifting with early 1990s BMW 3-series model vehicles. The BMW 3-series cars have since been named Gusheshe for the sound their engines make when they are revved.

“Spinning and drifting was synonymous with gangsters in the 1990s. It has since evolved to become a popular motorsport. However, some people still associate it with crooks. So, as the Wild Cats, our intention is to change that mentality,” Neko told the Weekender this week.

“Our motto is ‘Spin for Change’, which means we want to have a positive impact on people’s lives and disprove the stereotypes many people have about us.”

He said the gesture was meant to assist needy young ladies to access sanitary pads, since some were forced to use sheepskin as a substitute.

“Sanitary pads are a basic need for ladies, and it is common knowledge that some of them end up using potentially dangerous substitutes, or end up absenting themselves from school and other activities during that time of the month,” said Neko, who is also a comedian.

“We intend to use half of the takings at the show to buy as many sanitary towels as possible that will be distributed in the 10 districts of Lesotho.

He added: “God blesses the hand that gives, so we believe that for our association to grow, we first need to help the less fortunate.”

Neko also revealed they had invited other local motorsport groups which include Slip Diff Association, Team Moifo, Polo Club, A Team, BMW G-String Association and Don’t Mess With My VW among others.

The event will also be graced by BMW stuntmen associations from Botswana, Swaziland and South Africa, with an after-party set for Khotsong Lodge. Among the event’s sponsors are Econet Telecom Lesotho, Lesotho Flour Mills, Trentyre, Pioneer Mall, MGold Properties, AVANI Lesotho Hotels and Casino, Wilcorp, Galitos and Lilaphalapha Productions.
