MASERU — 50 lisente.
That was what a 27-year-old Maseru man offered his 12-year-old daughter to buy her silence after raping her.
But the girl had none of it and told her mother what had happened.
The police said the man sexually assaulted the minor two weeks ago after her mother had gone to buy snuff leaving the two alone in the house.
“The man took advantage of this and raped the girl,” Masupha Masupha, the police spokesperson said on Monday.
He said the mother told other villagers who later effected a citizens’ arrest.
The man appeared before the Maseru Magistrate’s Court last Tuesday where he was sentenced to 15 years in jail.
In a separate incident a 17-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by her 26-year-old neighbour on Thursday.
The girl is said to have forgot her spectacles at the house and when she came to pick them up the suspect forced her inside the house where he raped her.
He also allegedly threatened to kill her if she screamed.
The victim reported the matter to neighbours who arrested the man immediately and handed him over to the police.
The suspect, who is in police custody, was expected to appear in court this week.
Meanwhile, a 36-year-old man from Mafeteng is facing a murder charge after an 80-year-old woman he raped on March 3 died last week.
Police said the suspect was sentenced to 15 years in jail when he appeared in court on March 12 after he was convicted of sexually assaulting the granny.
He is now facing another charge of murder after the victim became ill after the rape and was hospitalised in Mafeteng where she died last Wednesday.
