MASERU — A man who raped his seven-year-old stepdaughter started serving an effective 15 years in jail on Monday.

Mokete Khotle, 31, of Morija Ha Ranthomeng Matete, pleaded guilty before magistrate ‘Manapo Motebele.

The court heard that on October 10 this year “near Roadside at Morija, Khotle unlawfuly and wrongfully had sexual intercourse with the minor”.

Prosecutor Puseletso Sekoati told the court that the accused went into the house where the girl was and raped her.

Because Khotle pleaded guilty to the charges the court did not call witnesses.

The court relied on the evidence provided by the police.

In that evidence the police had included a statement from Rethabile Mohola, 25, who had reported the matter after witnessing the rape.

She told the police that on October 10 she saw Khotle in the act of sexually abusing the minor.

Following her report at the Morija police Khotle was arrested and charged.

The girl was sent for a medical examination at Scot Hospital which revealed that she had indeed been sexually assaulted.

Constable Ranthake of Lesotho Mounted Police Service at Morija said after receiving a report she approached Khotle who failed to give a satisfactory explanation on the rape charges against him.
