BUTHA-BUTHE — A 21-year-old man from Sekubu in Butha-Buthe was last week arrested for stabbing and killing his 26-year-old brother, Lebona Letsatsi.

The police public relations officer, Pheello Mphana told the Lesotho Times that Lephallo Letsatsi intervened to stop his brother from beating up his pregnant wife.

“The deceased who was said to be heavily drunk was beating up his pregnant wife. He was threatening to axe her,” Mphana said.

The police spokesman said the deceased was hostile.

He said the deceased tried to break into a room in which his wife had locked herself up.

The wife had locked herself up as she sought sanctuary at her mother-in-law’s house.

The deceased is alleged to have grabbed a knife and tried to stab his brother.

Lephallo however seized the knife and stabbed Lebona.

“The suspect stabbed his hostile brother. He died on the spot. He was arrested the same day. He is in police custody where he is awaiting trial,” Mphana said.

Meanwhile in Phaphama, also in Buthe-Buthe, the police this week arrested a man for stabbing another man to death.

Mphana said the two had an argument at a local shebeen.

“The argument arose when the suspect asked the deceased why he was not drinking his beer at the shebeen. A few minutes later he stabbed him,” he said.
