MASERU — Maluti Mountain Brewery last Wednesday won the top Castle Lager quality award at the SABMiller Africa technical directors’ conference held in Durban, South Africa.

The brewery attained first position on taste at an average of 8.3. The maximum taste rating for a perfect beer is a 10.

The brewery also won first position on franchise adjustment which included compliance to the brand as per franchisor requirements.

It also attained second position on consistency of taste results measured month-on-month. It was also judged second on analytical compliance.

Speaking after the hand-over of the award, Maluti Mountain Brewery technical director Likhetho Mokhatla said the award was a “fitting recognition to our team of brewers who always ensure that consistent quality is achieved in all our products”.

“A special mention to Gabriel Pitso, the brewing manager, and to Violet ‘Mabathoana, the brewmaster, for keeping the team focused and hungry for success.

“To the entire technical team, this was made possible by the great support you gave to the brewing team,” Mokhatla said.

Maluti Mountain Brewery managing director Anthony Grendon said the award was a “just reward for the sustained efforts of the technical department in their quest to keep raising the bar”.

Pitso said the award was a tribute to the hard work and dedication of the brewery’s staff.

“Having got this award before, it is now clear that we remain focused on performance and, of course, the clear, crispy water of the Maluti Mountains is playing a major part in ensuring that we produce the best beer for the nation” Pitso said.

Countries that produce Castle Lager within the SABMiller Africa region are Botswana, Lesotho, Mozambique, Swaziland, Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
