MASERU — The 2009 Junior Certificate (JC) results are out.
The Minister of Education and Training, Dr ‘Mphono Khaketla, announced at a press conference held in Maseru yesterday that the results would be released to the public today.
Dr Khaketla also said six schools would not get their results because of some irregularities that occurred during the examinations.
“It is with great pleasure that I announce the release of the 2009 JC results. It is a pleasure to note and inform the public that the performance is comparable with that of the past five years,” Dr Khaketla said.
“Unfortunately, this time again, there were irregularities at some schools where candidates are suspected to have cheated. The affected schools’ results will thus remain pending while investigations are underway.”
“They are St Denis High School, Moruthane AME Secondary School, Makhobalo High School, Mohale Combined School, Mafa Secondary School and Takalatsa Secondary School.”
She said the total number of registered candidates was 19 146, with 18 774 sitting for the exams.
The total number of passes is 12 840, which is 68.4 percent of the candidates who sat for the examinations.
The total number of candidates who did not meet the minimum requirements for a pass is 5 934 (31.6 percent).
A total 253 (1.3 percent) candidates obtained First Class with a merit — a decrease of 0.2 percent compared to the previous year.
