Mohalenyane Phakela

BLOEMFONTEIN-BASED disc spinner, Stone Candi will host a birthday bash which is expected to feature South African deep House heavyweight DJ Christos at Kwa Lichaba on Saturday.

This is the first time the Mohale’s Hoek-born soulful House DJ is celebrating his birthday in the form of shows which started in East London, South Africa last weekend.

The Lesotho edition is the second on the list with Kimberly, Mthatha, Welkom and Bloemfontein (all in South Africa) set to follow before end of the month.

Stone Candi said he had include Lesotho in the line-up “because I was born there and there is so much love and support I get from my countrymen when I have gigs in Lesotho as well Bloemfontein”.

Stone Candi has played at several local clubs including Ozone, Ba.One and Club De Fasto.

He also played at SK’s birthday bash and the Rock The City’s Summer Festival in November and December 2016 respectively.

On Saturday he will play a one and half hour set alongside DJ Christos and Bloemfontein’s Mr Spike and Binnz.

Tshepzadj, Afrodj, Warrys, Mtsuzi, Linah, Detail, Ketane and PTee will make up the local contingent.

“I am forever full of surprises and tend to surprise myself as well, but nobody wants to miss my set this Saturday, which will be for an hour and 30 minutes,” Stone Candi said.

“The people I have selected to share the stage are those I trust to deliver killer sets including Mr Spike who hasn’t been to Maseru for a while and the newcomer Binnz who already has a good following.

“Tshepzadj is a close friend from my neighbourhood while Afrodj has also made a good name for himself in a short space of time. The rest are part of Kwa Lichaba.”

DJ Christos is no stranger to the local entertainment scene as he has been in the country several times and always left the crowd begging for more.

His career highlights include co-founding the popular Kalawa Jazmee Records which along with his own Katsaitis Music, launched the careers of some of the most recognisable South African artistes, including Boom Shaka, the late Lebo Mathosa, Shana, Daw and Black Coffee.

He also produces deep Afro-funk alongside Vinny Da Vinci as the ensemble, DJs At Work.

DJ Christos’s Katsaitis Music label has worked with top international labels, Real Tone Records (France) and GOGO Music (Germany) and it is one of major DJ agencies in South Africa, representing the likes of Black Coffee and Vinny Da Vinci, as well as European DJs like Ralf Gum, Franck Roger and Rocco. Christos has played with all these big guns, as well as the likes of Louie Vega, Frankie Knuckles, Mr V and Dennis Ferrer.
