MASERU — A senior police officer and four other suspects were last week nabbed for possession of marijuana.

The five who are all aged between 20 and 35 appeared in court last Wednesday.

“Senior Inspector Mokone Mahlase who is based in Maseru and his companions Sekonyela Khama, Teboho Lekena, Motsamai Mots’oene and Thabo Mokhethi were remanded in police custody for being in possession of dagga,” spokesperson Masupha Masupha said.

He said the five were caught travelling in a yellow Toyota vehicle following a tip-off from villagers in Nazareth.

“The suspects were caught by the police at a road block following a tip-off,” he said.

The five are out on bail of M200 each.

In a separate incident, a 24-year-old man from Setibing was arrested last week after he was caught in possession of dagga.

Masupha said the suspect stopped a police vehicle and asked for a lift.

“The police asked the suspect where he was going with a school bag. He told them that he was going to school,” Masupha said.

“Police became suspicious because the schools were still closed for the winter break,” he said.

The police then asked to search the school bag and found dagga packed inside the bag.

The suspect was arrested on the spot.

In Maseru, two men aged 25 and 32 were arrested last week after they were caught in possession of 12 bags of dagga.

The suspects were travelling in a public taxi.

“The suspects were caught by the police at a road block,” Masupha said.

He said both suspects are still in police custody.
