MASERU — Miss Maseru High Schools is set for next month.
The pageant, organised by Young Christian Workers (YCW), will see 10 models from as many schools in the capital battling it out for the crown.
YCW invited 30 schools, but only a third responded positively.
“I agree there are more than 10 high schools in Maseru,” Limakatso Makutle, one of the organisers, told the Weekender.
“We did not use any criteria to select these 10 high schools but some principals were not interested while others had to follow school procedures.
“We had sent out more than 30 letters to high schools but only 10 responded positively.”
Despite that, Maikutle is confident the pageant — to be held at Cooperative College in Maseru on March 13 — will be successful.
She said the main purpose of the pageant was to groom models and to encourage them to take up modelling seriously.
“The main purpose of this event is to make sure that these girls grow up loving modelling because it is an interesting career,” said Makutle.
“When these girls get older and take part in big competitions, it becomes difficult for them to answer questions because they lack confidence.
“So girls representing their schools will gain experience and build their confidence as early as when they are at high school level.”
